Jason Hugh McMurtrey, 36, of
Summer Shade, KY, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2026, U of L Hospital. He was
born on June 15, 1989, at TJ Samson Community Hospital. He was the son of Tom
and Freda McPherson McMurtrey.
Jason was part owner of
Summer Shade Collison and he spent 9 years as a volunteer Summer Shade fireman.
He enjoyed trap shooting, riding horses, and agravating his friends and family.
On September 28, 2013, Jason
married the love of his life, Katie Hodges McMurtrey, who has been by his side
every minute of his struggle with cancer.
In addition to his wife,
survivors include his parents, Tom and Freda McPherson McMurtrey, of Summer
Shade; brother Brian (Beth) McMurtrey of Summer Shade; 7 nieces and nephews,
Emma McMurtrey, Micah McMurtrey, Aubrey McMurtrey, Adalyn McMurtrey, Andrew
Hugh McMurtrey, Averie Garmon, and Ivy Garmon; special aunt, Wilmetta
McPherson; mother-in-law, Tammi (Kenyon) Wallace; father-in-law, Richard
(Betsy) Hodges; sister-in-law, Kelsie (Tyler) Garmon grandmothers-in-law, Linda Hodges and Shirley
Killman; several aunts and uncles; and his dog Kimber.
He is preceded in death by
his grandparents, Charles and Arlene McMurtrey and Hughie and Olene McPherson;
grandfathers-in-law, Dalton Hodges and Paul Killman; and his dog, Ruger.
Funeral service will be
1:00PM Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at McMurtrey Funeral Home with burial in the
White Cemetery. Visitation will be on
Tuesday from 1:00PM until 8:00PM and on Wednesday after 8:00AM at McMurtrey
Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the
family encourages that memorials are made to the Summer Shade Fire Department.
