Danny McMurtrey

 




Danny Lee McMurtrey, 80 of Glasgow, KY passed away Monday, December 18, 2023, at the Shanti Niketan Hospice Home. He was born August 8, 1943, to the late Roy Lee and Mary Hoover McMurtrey. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his baby sister Glenda. Danny was a Vietnam War veteran, local owner/operator of McMurtrey Ready Mix and a farmer.

He is survived by his four children; Jeff (Melinda) Sanders, Casey Estes, Danya McMurtrey, and Lane (Daniel) Deckard, eight grandchildren; Mikayla, Brantley, Logan, Callie, Carlie, River, Caroline and Cadence, one sister Carolyn Winn, nephews Gary and Steven Winn, and his companion Frances Donaldson. 

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 22, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at McMurtrey Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Summer Shade Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 9:30 A.M. until time of the service. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 20 of Glasgow/Barren County.

Virginia Perkins


 

Virginia Lois Perkins, 75 of Glasgow passed away December 17,2023 at TJ Samson Hospital in Glasgow, Ky. She was born in Summer Shade, KY. to the late Denzil Ray and Aubrey Alyne Pedigo Perkins.

 

She is survived by two daughters Stacy Minor and Angie (Stevie) Riddle of Glasgow, six grandchildren Nicole Scott, Jasper (Ketelynn) Mundy, Evan Riddle, Owen Riddle, Coleman Deckard and Noah Morgan, four great grandchildren, Tayden Hurt, Haisley Hodges, Jacelynn Hodges and Ella Mae Mundy. She is also survived by two sisters Kim Perkins of Edmonton and Carolyn Turner of Florida, one brother Jeff Perkins of Hiseville, two sisters in laws Lana Perkins and Kay Perkins.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister Nancy Hale and three brothers Billie Daen, Louie, and Stanley Perkins.

 

Funeral Services will be Thursday – December 21, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. at the McMurtrey Funeral Home with cremation to follow. Visitation will be Wednesday – December 20 from 4:00 till 8:00 at the funeral home and on Thursday from 8:00 until time of service.

Maxie Riddle Kingrey





Maxie Riddle Kingrey, 98 of Summer Shade passed away December 17,2023 at Signature Nursing Home in Tompkinsville, KY. She was born June 26, 1925, in Cumberland County to the late Culbert Riddle and Ethel Groce Riddle. She is also preceded in death by her husband Lynn Kingrey and grandson Stephen Bowles.

She is survived by her two children Carol (Jack) Barrett and Jackie (Sharon) Kingrey, two grandsons Jonathon (Crystal) Kingrey and Jordon Kingrey, two sisters Mary Crumpton and Nina Birge, one brother Jean (Janet) Riddle, several great grandchildren Benjamin, Beckham “Beckton”, Beatrice, Dayne, Evan, Jacob, and Abigail. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 20,2023 at 1:00 P.M. with burial to follow in the Summer Shade Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 19,2023 from 3:00 till 8:00P.M. here at the funeral home and after 8:00A.M. on Wednesday until time of the service.

Zelma Anita Walker





Zelma Anita Walker, 70 of Glasgow passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at her sister’s home under hospice care surrounded by family and loved ones. She was born June 21, 1953, in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Carlie Monday Sr and Oval Bryant Monday.

Zelma spent the first six years of her life in Indianapolis, IN. Her family then moved to Tompkinsville, KY where she spent most of her life until moving to Glasgow in 2016. She was a homemaker, caregiver, and a servant to many. Her life was spent helping others, feeding others and teaching others to can and process food. She had the heart of a true servant. She could cook one of the largest and best meals on the smallest of budgets. She loved her babies as she called them, her grandchildren, and great grandchildren. 

She loved shopping and giving gifts to others. Her favorite artists were Kenny Rogers, Randy Travis, and Elvis. Some of her favorite hobbies included quilting, canning, gardening, and teaching others how to cook. 

She is survived by her husband of 50 years Floyd Walker Jr, three sons Floyd (Christie) Walker III, Dwight Walker, and Christopher Walker all of Glasgow, four grandchildren Emily (Trevor) Gentry of Mt. Hermon, Austin (Candy) Walker of Cave City, Trevor (Tiffany) Walker of Glasgow and Ethan Walker of Glasgow, three great grandchildren Eli and Hudson Gentry and Roselind Walker, seven brothers and sisters Della Johnson of Glasgow, Bettie (Burney) Scott of  IN, Roger Monday of Tompkinsville, Cheri (Richard) Woodmansee of TX, Darlene Monday of Glasgow, Jackie Monday of Hopkinsville, KY and Robbie Monday of TN, sister-in-law Shirley Monday, and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

She is preceded in death by three sisters Sue Monday, Phyllis Monday, and Linda Monday, one brother Carlie Monday Jr. sister-in-law Connie Monday and three unborn great grandchildren. 

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, December 14, 2023, at 12 noon at McMurtrey Funeral Home with burial in the Monroe County Memorial Lawn. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 13, 2023, from 3:00-8:00 P.M and after 8:00 A.M. on Thursday until time of the service.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made for funeral expenses or Shanti Niketan Hospice Home.

Racheal Denise O'Brien

 


Racheal Denise O’Brien, 50 of Tompkinsville, KY passed away December 6,2023 at TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, TN. She was born October 20, 1973, to the late Roger Barrett and Glenda Sellers Holton. Racheal loved her animals, going fishing and being outdoors.

She is survived by her husband James Kevin O’Brien of Tompkinsville, son Harvey Daniel Rogers, one daughter Hannah Rogers, five grandchildren, father-in-law Vernon O’Brien, mother-in-law Janice Ince and her stepfather Claude Pelcher.

Cremation was chosen by the family. McMurtrey Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

Roger Morris Hodges

 




Roger Morris Hodges, 83 of Summer Shade passed away Sunday, November 26, 2023, at his home.

He was born February 29, 1940, to the late Bernard and Elsie Hodges.  He was also preceded in death by his brother Dalton Hodges and two sisters Ruth Ferguson and Bonnie Kessler. He loved playing pitch, working on the farm, and taking the boys to the flea market.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years Darlene Hodges, two children Robin (Tony) Clemmons and Roger Dale (Rhonda) Hodges, five grandchildren Jessie (Whitney) Parke, William (Megan) Parke, Clayton (Rilie) Parke, Chase Hodges, and Gracie Hodges, two great grandchildren Kyle and Cambree Parke, one brother Loyd Hodges and sister Rose Garrett. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at 11:00 AM at McMurtrey Funeral Home with burial to follow in the White Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 28, 2023, from 2:00 PM till 8:00 PM here at the funeral home and after 8:00 AM on Wednesday until time of the service.


Barbara Anne Wilson

 


Barbara Anne Wilson, age 87 of Summer Shade, KY passed away Sunday, November 26, 2023, at TJ Samson Hospital. She was born March 1, 1936, to the late Forrest Reid Black and Hazel Black. She is also preceded in death by her sister Julia Black and brother Billy Black.

Survivors include one son Mike (Sue) Wilson of Summer Shade, grandson James Michael Harper (Kim), and five great grandchildren Reid, William, Kylee, Annie Harper, and Bailey Peterson.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at Summer Shade Cemetery. There will be no visitation. McMurtrey Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Gary Piercy




 Gary Lewis Piercy, 56, of Fort Wayne, IN passed away Saturday, November 18, 2023, at the Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, IN. He was born in Fort Wayne, In on February 22, 1967, to David Lee Piercy and Goldina Smith.

 

Mr. Piercy was of the Christian faith and enjoyed fishing, hunting, working on cars, spending time with family and friends and was always willing to help others.

 

Survivors include his father David Lee Piercy (Brenda) of Edmonton, KY; his mother Goldina Smith (Tommy Gibson) of Summer Shade, KY; the love of his life Penny Holzgen of Fort Wayne, IN; ten siblings Marty Piercy (Beth), Dennis Piercy (Jackie), Penny Daniel, Timothy Piercy (Stacy), Margie Pauley (Josh), Amy Turner, Billy Ryan (Jackie), Katrina Piercy, Lisa Hall (Ken), and Michael Patterson (Patty) and several nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by a sister Ginny Piercy, brother-in-law Keith Daniel and sister-in-law Robin Piercy

 

Graveside services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Skaggs Creek Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Michael Rex Bartley

 


Michael Rex Bartley, 67, of Edmonton, KY passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at Southern Kentucky Rehabilitation Hospital in Bowling Green, KY. He was born on January 13, 1956, in Burkesville, KY to the late Rex and Jean Huff Bartley. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter Shaylee Jo Vibbert.

Mr. Bartley was of the Baptist faith and worked as a supervisor for CCC Contracting before retiring in 2022 after 15 years. He was an avid lover of the water, fishing, and hunting but his greatest love was spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife Betty Mae Bartley of Edmonton, KY; five children Christina Simmons (Jason) of Glasgow, KY, Christopher Bartley (Christy) of Temple Hill, KY, Cody Bartley, Amanda Allen (Kevin) of Tompkinsville, KY, and Samantha Vibbert (Kelly) of Summer Shade, KY; three siblings Connie Bartley, Mark Bartley (Teresa), and Joseph Bartley (Donna) all of Glasgow, KY; thirteen grandchildren Becca Bartley, Cheyenne Bartley, Cassie Simmons, Jake Simmons, Justin Simmons (Cortney), Jacey Bartley, Hadley Bartley, Coy Allen, Troy Allen, Bailey Vibbert, Payslee Vibbert, Kylee Vibbert, Kessler Vibbert; two great grandchildren Remington Allen and Trace Miller; a special brother-in-law Donlad Garden; several nieces and nephews including two special nephews Charles and Donald Gordon.

Funeral services will be at 1:00pm Sunday, October 29, 2023, at McMurtrey Funeral Home with burial in the Summer Shade Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00am till 8:00 pm Saturday at Mcmurtrey Funeral Home and again on Sunday from 8:00 till funeral time of 1:00 P.M.

Edna Maxine Compton


 

Edna Maxine Compton, age 78 of Tompkinsville passed away October 24, 2023 at NHC Healthcare in Glasgow. Born in Monroe County, Kentucky, she was a daughter of Leslie Tyree and Delcie Jones Tyree Clark. Mrs. Compton was a daycare manager.

She is survived by three sons Troy (Louanna) Compton of Florence, Robert (Shelly) Compton of Tompkinsville and Paul Sorke of North Port, Fl; eleven grandchildren; six great grandchildren and one sister Shirley Mayes of Florence, Ky.. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two children Christopher and Theresa Renna Compton: brothers David, Jimmy, Bill and Hubert and one sister Edith.

 

 

Funeral services will be Friday October 27, 2023, at1:00 P.M. at the McMurtrey Funeral Home in Summer Shade with burial to follow in the Bethlehem Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday October 27 from 10:00 Am till funeral time of 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Bronda Jewell Gearlds Anderson, age 81 of Marrowbone passed away October 16, 2023 at the Cumberland County Hospital. She was born October 3, 1942, to the late Claude and Lydie Owens Gearlds.

She is survived by two daughters Beth Denise Anderson of Marrowbone and Sherry Perdue of Edmonton, one son Jesse Gid Anderson of Marrowbone, six grandchildren and several great and great- great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands Floyd Thomas Anderson and Harold Gene Anderson, one daughter Sheila Sue Short, one son James Thomas Anderson, one grandson Parker Perdue, two sisters and four brothers.

Paul Curtis Whitlow, age 62 of Summer Shade passed away Saturday, October 14, 2023, at his home. Born in Glasgow on December 11, 1960, to the late Phillip and May Dell Whitlow. He is also preceded in death by his dog Jackie.

He is survived by his children Billie Jo Brown of Center, Angie Wolf, John Brown (Jenny) of Center, Sarah Zabel (Jason) of Greensburg, Andy Piper (Kayli) of Savoyard, Bobby Whitlow of Randolph, and Tracy Dodson (Stephen) of Edmonton, Seventeen grandchildren and one great grandchild, sister Ann Acree (Peter), Jessee Whitlow (Gale), Sam Whitlow (Kim) and David Whitlow (John). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday October 18, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at McMurtrey Funeral Home with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Ruth Ann Webb


 

Ruth Ann " Annie" Webb, age 76 of Red Hill passed away Friday, October 13, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born February 17, 1947 to the late Issac Adams and Lucille Clarkson Adams. Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Tommy Webb, son Donald Davis, four brothers and two sisters.

 

She is survived by eight children Ronald Davis, Vanessa Thurman (Emily), Tracy Davis, Vonda Watson (Lee), Chris Davis (Elizabeth), Tommy Webb Jr., Jessica Ballard, and Ashley Bewley (Jimmy). Thirty grandchildren and thirty-three great grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 16, 2023 1:00 P.M. at McMurtrey Funeral Home with burial in the Beech Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M here at the funeral home and from 8:00 A.M. on Monday until time of the service.

Brenda Moore


 

Brenda Sue Moore, age 75, of Tompkinsville passed away Thursday, October 12, 2023, at her home. She was born December 30, 1947, in Tompkinsville to the late Ray and Nettie Birge.

Brenda was a member of Mt. Gilead Church of Christ and retired from American General Insurance. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, square dancing and traveling to Florida for the winter with her husband Dale.

She is survived by her husband Dale Moore, daughter Glenda Lyon (Steven); three grandchildren Steven Dale Lyon (Katie), Michael Trent Lyon (Lisa) and Rylee Lyons; four great grandchildren Sawyer, Lyndon, Ariya, and Kiera Lyon. Sisters Dorene Hard, Nancy McIntyre, Linda Long and Sondra Richey (Tony). She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brothers Bob Birge, Harold Birge, Kelly Birge and Shelly Birge, and two sisters Evie Moore and Mary Lena Birge.

Funeral services will be held Sunday October 15, 2023, 2:00 P.M. at Mt. Gilead Church of Christ with burial to follow in the Monroe County Memorial Lawn. Visitation will be Saturday October 14, 2023, from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at McMurtrey Funeral Home and on Sunday from 8:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. here at the funeral home and from 12:00 P.M. until time of the service at the church. Margaret Ann Landrum


 

Margaret Ann Landrum 80, of Glasgow, died Saturday, September 30, 2023 at the Glenview Healthcare Center in Glasgow.  Born in Louisville, KY the daughter of the late Neal and Evelyn Emberton Witty.  Mrs. Landrum was retired from Sumitomo Wiring and of the Baptist Faith.

 

Survivors include her son Don Bartley of Glasgow; 1 granddaughter Victoria Bartley of Glasgow; her longtime companion George Stark, JR. of Glasgow along with several nieces and nephews also survive,

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 1 brother Mitchell Witty, 2 sisters Linda Bartley and Alice Ne Smith.

 

A funeral service for Mrs. Landrum will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, October 5, 2023, at the McMurtrey Funeral Home with burial in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be held 4 PM until 8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home and continue on Thursday from 8:00 am till funeral time of 2:00 at the funeral home

Beverly Jean Walker




Beverly Jean Walker, 68 of Summer Shade passed away September 29,2023 at home surrounded by her family. Born February 18, 1955 in Chicago Illinois to the late Lawrence Barnes and Emma Jean Williams. She attended Seven Springs Church in Node.

She is survived by three children Lisa (Brian) Woodcock of Glasgow, Samantha (Timothy) Ziegler of Summer Shade and Dennis (Brookie) Walker of Summer Shade. Nine grandchildren Weston Walker, Blaine Walker, Kimberly Kinnaird, Brittany Smith, Timothy Ziegler, Willie Melton III, Heather Melton, Adalynn Melton, and MaKaylei Melton. Five great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren and one brother Billy Buckley of Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ronnie Lee Walker and lifelong companion Doug McCoy. Brother Joe Dugard.

Visitation will be held Monday October 2, 2023 from 3:00 till 8:00 P.M. at McMurtrey Funeral Home with visitation to follow on Tuesday October 3, 2023 from 8:00 A.M. until 12:30 P.M. here at the funeral home with services being held at White Cemetery Chapel at 1:00 P.M. with burial to follow at the White Cemetery. Dorothy Davis Glass


 Dorothy Davis Glass, 92, of Edmonton, KY passed away peacefully Sunday, September 24, 2023, at her home. She was born in Barren County on September 18, 1931, to the late Samuel Davis and Euna Elizabeth Houchens Davis. She was preceded in death by her husband John William Glass.

Mrs. Glass was a devoted wife, loving mother and special “Mema” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of the Lick Branch Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include four children Mike Glass (Rhonda), Tim Glass (Connie), and Janet Glass Reed (Danny) all of Edmonton, KY and Denise Glass Fudge (Mark) of Columbia, KY; eight grandchildren Jason Glass (Stephenie), Kara Morgan (John Michael), Ashley Firkins (Nick), Brittany Reed (Justin Graves), Aaron Glass (Heather), Rachel Wilson (Codi), Nickolas Fudge (Natalie), and Matthew Fudge (Preslee); sixteen great grandchildren; a special relative Runell Clemmons (Doug); a sister Virginia Wells of Glasgow, Ky and several nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law Linda Glass, six sisters Ida Mae Smith, Sadie Jackman, Levie Kinslow, Mattie Matthews, Bertha Davis, and Grace Roby, and one brother Samuel D. Davis.

Visitation will be on Friday from 11:00am-1:00pm at McMurtrey Funeral Home with a private service held later with burial in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Randolph.

Timothy Sparks




 

Timothy Reid Sparks, a resident of Edmonton was born May 23,1955 in Metcalfe County to the late Glen Reid and Pauline Christie Sparks. Tim departed this life Saturday, September 23, 2023 at the age of 68.

Tim was a 1973 graduate of Metcalfe County High School and retired from the Department of Transportation as road supervisor. Tim enjoyed retirement and being home with his wife Charlotte Anderson Sparks whom he married January 7, 1977. Tim was a loyal UK fan and followed them religiously. He also enjoyed NASCAR and politics. Tim was a dedicated democrat and never missed the opportunity to drive the roads and visit people to campaign. He was looking forward to the upcoming Governor's race. Even with all this Tim will be remembered as a man who gave his all to help his friends and neighbors. Although he had no biological children Tim and Charlotte never failed to step up to the plate to help young people who had come into their lives. Not only young people but all their family and friends. Tim was a member of the Edmonton Methodist Church.

Besides his wife Tim is survived by a special brother-in-law Tommy Anderson who resided with them. Brother-in-law Calvin Anderson. Special cousins and sister-in-law, Sandra and Timmy Allbright. Cousins Herb (Jan) Sparks, Lee Sparks, Jenny Thomas, Betty, Pat Lee, Diane, and Sandra. Tim is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Tim will be held 1:00 PM, Wednesday at McMurtrey Funeral Home in Summer Shade with burial in the Summer Shade Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday after 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Summer Shade Cemetery.

Exie Mae Harris Vance






Exie Mae Lollar Harris Vance, age 83 of Summer Shade passed away peacefully September 13,2023. She was surrounded by love and prayers from all her family and loved ones at her daughter Sandra and family’s home. Exie Mae was welcomed to the world by her loving parents on December 23,1939 to Sammie and Mable Odell Humes Lollar. Exie was the oldest of her nine siblings, whom she loved dearly. She wed her first husband, Jack Albert Harris in 1958 and they made their happy home in Summer Shade, KY. Jack and Exie welcomed two adored children into the world Jeff (Bobbie) Harris of Glasgow and Sandra (Paul) Emberton of Lucas. Exie began working at a young age providing care for the elderly in their homes. She became a very talented seamstress for many years in nearby factories, she also became a district manager for Tupperware, and before retiring she worked at Walmart in Tompkinsville. With all these jobs she never met a stranger and felt so blessed to remain to have lifelong friendships with all those she had met. Yet the best job she ever had was yet to come, as she began babysitting children in the community, something she cherished. Exie was a member of Hagan's Grove Baptist Church.

 

Jack and Exie had a beautiful life until his passing in 1992. Years later, Exie wed a lifelong friend Veachel Vance in 1997, through this marriage she gained another beloved daughter Marcia (Lester) Thompson. Outside of gardening, shopping, and traveling, Exie enjoyed being a grandmother. Exie was the proud and loving grandmother to Kelli (Joey) Norman of Glasgow, MaLora (Michael) Woods of Gamaliel, Kara Harris of Glasgow, Logan, Landon, and Aleigha Emberton of Lucas, as well as a great grandmother to Harper and Ava Dickson. Through Exie’s marriage to Veachel, she gained a grandson CJ (Melinda) Bush of Glasgow and two great grandchildren Madelyn and Grayson. She also had several nieces and nephews that held a special place in her heart.

 

Along with her children and grandchildren, she is survived by her brothers Mitchell (Wanda) of Summer Shade, Ricky (Joyce) of Glasgow, and Chris (Cindy) of Edmonton, her sisters Barbie (Jackie) Crowe of Summer Shade, and Donna (Tom) of Celina. Exie’s celebration of life will be held at McMurtrey Funeral Home on September 15,2023 from 4:00PM to 8:00 P.M., with visitation to follow on Saturday September 16,2023 at 10:00 A.M. till 2:30 here at the funeral home with funeral services being held at White Cemetery Chapel at 3:00 P.M. with burial to follow in the White Cemetery.

Tonya Rena Scott

 

Tonya Rena Scott, 46, of Glasgow, KY died Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Jewish Hospital IN Louisville, KY.  Born November 13, 1976 in Tompkinsville, KY the daughter of the the late Ronnie Vinson and Patsy Raney Vinson of Glasgow, KY who survives. 

 

In addition to her mother survivors include her husband James Scott of Glasgow;  1 daughter Michaela Scott; 1 son Kerry Scott both of Glasgow; 1 step-daughter Kim Scott and 1 step- son Dylan Huff;  2 brothers Timmy Vinson (Sam) of Glasgow, Wayne Vinson (Marilee) of Tompkinsville, KY; 2 grandchildren along with several aunts and uncles also survive.

 

In addition to her father she was preceded in death by her first husband Michael Scott.

 

Graveside service will be held 1PM Monday, September 11, 2023 at the Harlan Cross-Roads Cemetery in Monroe County.   Visitation will be Monday, from 11:30 AM until 12:30 PM at the McMurtrey Funeral Home.

Iva Branham Shaw

 




Iva D. (Branham) Shaw, 93, of Franklin, IN passed away Sunday, August 27, 2023 at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis, IN.

She was born February 21, 1930 in Barren County, Kentucky to Thomas Evan Branham and

Molly (Vibbert) Branham. She married Otha Ellis Shaw on June 14, 1947 in Glasgow, Kentucky; he preceded her in death on March 4, 1970.

Iva had been a group leader for RCA in Indianapolis, IN for 36 years retiring in 1994.She was a member of Union Christian Church in Franklin, IN.  From 1970 until 1986, she was an avid bowler and was part of several bowling leagues. She enjoyed spending time with her family and get togethers.

Survivors include her two daughters Linda F. Gyles of Franklin, IN and Brenda M. Haler of Franklin, IN, two grandsons Terry Wayne Hayes (Dawn) of Taylorsville, KY and Tony Allen Hayes (Christina) of Shepherdsville, KY, five great-grandchildren Laura Dowdy, Chelsey Barrick, Holly Hayes, Cody Hayes and Emmalee Hayes, five great-great-grandchildren Cole Dowdy, Alexander Dowdy, Adalaid Dowdy, Annabelle Hayes, William Landrum and Ethan Shontz, nieces Joyce Golden, Marilyn Paige, Donna Branham and Debra Coe, a nephew Samuel Muse.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Inell Luttrell, a brother Herbert Branham and five infant siblings.

Pastors Mark B. Parkinson and Allen Whitehurst will conduct a service on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 2PM at Union Christian Church, 1331 East 300 South in Franklin, IN and where friends may call from 11AM until service time at the church. A service will follow on Sunday, September 3, 2023 at 1PM (Central Time) at McMurtrey Funeral Home, 2232 Summer Shade Road in Summer Shade, Kentucky, 42166 where friends may call from 11AM until service time at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service on Sunday at Summer Shade Cemetery in Summer Shade, Kentucky.

Sally Imogene Billingsley Grenead, 92 of Summer Shade passed away Saturday August 26,2023 at the Hospice House in Glasgow. She was born June 23,1931 in Tompkinsville to the late Harley Billingsley and Eva Gentry Billingsley.

She is survived by four children Deborah (Tony) Simmons of Glasgow, Donna Copas of Tompkinsville, Chris (Jodie) Grenead of Columbia, TN, and Brian (Shauna) Grenead of Gallatin, TN., grandchildren Lindsey (Wade) Jackson, Lauren Simmons (Shea Guy), Ty (Lauren) Simmons, Tuesday Grenead, Tristan Grenead, Harlie Grenead and Dixie Grenead, great grandchildren Brady, Carter and Hadley,and son-in-law Bruce Hester. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Namon Grenead, two sons Steve and Daryl Grenead, brothers Junior Billingsley and Richard Billingsley, sisters Virginia Wilborn and Ruth Ann Crumpton, and son-in-law Eddie Copas.

Cecil Joe Davis







Cecil Joe Davis, 80 of Edmonton passed away Friday August 25,2023 at NHC Healthcare. He was born February 16, 1943 to the late Medford Davis and Pauline Hurt.

Mr. Davis was a truck driver and an iron worker. He loved traveling to Montana, panning for gold, going to rodeos and coon hunting.

Survivors include four children Estelle Mariea Geis, Dawn Drury, James S. Davis and Jonathan R.A. Davis, grandchildren Ariel Jade Mujakovic, Ashley Causeway, Austin Causeway, Shauna Jessie, James Davis, Thomas Drury, James Drury, Jonathan D. Drury, Tawny Davis, Daileigh Grace Wright, Marisa Dipilla and Gabriel Davis, ten great-grandchildren, brother Billy (RuthAnn) Hurt and sister Sue Cumbee, mothers of his children Sheri Davis Flanagan and Sheila Curtis.

Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his stepfather Benton Hurt, daughter Miriah Davis, great grandson Luka Mujakovic and three brothers Bobby, Jerry and Jimmy Hurt.

Dalton Lyle Hodges




Dalton Lyle Hodges, 88 of Summer Shade passed away Thursday August 24,2023 at the Hospice House in Bowling Green. He was born July 24, 1935 to the late Bernard Hodges and Elsie Branstetter Hodges. Mr. Hodges was a United States Army veteran and an avid farmer.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years Linda Hodges of Summer Shade, four children Tim (Kaye) Hodges, Richard Hodges (Betsy Smith), Joey Hodges and Lonnie Hodges all of Summer Shade. Grandchildren Katie (Jason) McMurtrey and Kelsie (Tyler) Garmon, great grandchild Averie Garmon, sister Rose Garrett, brothers Loyd Hodges and Roger (Darlene) Hodges, and brother-in-law Jimmy Kessler.

Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his son Chris Hodges and sisters Ruth Ferguson and Bonnie Kessler.

Funeral services will be held Saturday August 26,2023 at 1:00 P.M. at White Cemetery Chapel with burial in the White Cemetery. Bethany Boston-Orlando

 



Bethany Marie Boston-Orlando 32, of Summer Shade passed away Tuesday August 22,2023. She was born April 5, 1991 in Glasgow to the late Michael Boston and Sharon Walker Beauchamp.

She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. Bethany loved the outdoors, hunting mushrooms, fishing and being a mom to her two boys.

Survivors include her husband Thomas Orlando, two sons Grayson and Maddox Orlando, mother Sharon (Todd) Beauchamp, paternal grandmother Carol Boston, maternal grandmother Carolyn England, and Aunt Michele (Tim) Smith. Also surviving is a host of aunts and uncles.

She is preceded in death by her father and grandfather Wayne Boston.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 25,2023 at 1:00 P.M. with burial in Union #2 Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home and from 8:00 A.M. on Friday until time of the service.




Larry Robert Hope




 

Larry Robert Hope 76, of Summer Shade passed away Tuesday August 22,2023 at his home. He was born August 26,1946 to the late Charles Hope and Margie West Hope. Larry was a member of the Goodson Chapel Community Church.

 

Survivors include one brother Kenneth (Kathy) Hope of Summer Shade, one niece Kimberly (Chris) Thomas of Campbellsville and a great niece and nephew Gavin Thomas and Adeline Thomas.

Mildred Ruth Scott

 



Mildred Ruth Scott, 91 of Glasgow passed away peacefully Wednesday August 16, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born March 22,1932 to the late George Young and Alma Young. She was of the Baptist faith and loved to make quilts.

 

Survivors include six children, Carol Lyle, Bonnie Wilson, Diane Martin, Shelia (Tommy) McCoy, Roger (Velvet) Scott and Pattie (Chris) Sewell, several grandchildren Kelley Dalton, Heather Seiner, Tonya Smith, Stephanie Logsdon, Daniel Wilson, Angela Baker, Brandy Thurman, Lindsay Roberts, John Scott, Brandon Kelly, Bradley Swafford, Jason Swafford, Austin England, Drake McCoy, Colton Thurman, Alexis Evans, Ricky Neal, Christy Decker and Allen Sewell, twenty-five grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren and one brother Bobby Young. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

 

She is preceded in death by her husband Wendell Scott, two grandchildren Gregory Roach, Patricia Scott, son-in-law Ronnie Wilson, her sisters Verla, Marie, Rita, and Merlene.

 

Funeral services will be held on Saturday August 19,2023 at 1:00 P.M.  at McMurtrey Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home and on Saturday from 8:00 A.M. until time of service. Terry Lee Gordon


 

Terry Lee Gordon, 70, of Summer Shade, KY passed away Monday, August 14, 2023, at the Hospice House of Bowling Green. He was born on July 20, 1953, in Glasgow, KY to the late Elbert Jewell and Gladys Jean Adwell Gordon.

 

Mr. Gordon was of the Christian faith and a veteran of the U. S. Air Force. He enjoyed collecting and building trains and train tracks and spending time with his family and friends.

 

He is survived by his son Chris Gordon (Kim) of Summer Shade, KY; two granddaughters Traci Michelle Goodman (Ira) of Texas and Haven Nicole Gordon of Florida; five great grandchildren; brothers Charles Gordon of Louisville, KY and James David Houck of Atlanta, Ga. and several other friends and relatives.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers Russell and Jeff Gordon.

 

Funeral services will be 11:00am Thursday, August 17, 2023, at McMurtrey Funeral Home with burial in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central at Radcliff, KY. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00-8:00pm and will continue Thursday after 8:00am at McMurtrey Funeral Home.

Margaret Froedge

 





Margaret Aline Froedge 76, of Edmonton passed away Tuesday August 8,2023 at NHC Healthcare. She was born March 1, 1947 to the late Glen Garmon and Doris Garrett Garmon.

 

Margaret was a member of Edmonton Worship Center but attended Grace Union Baptist Church. She had made a profession of faith at the age of 52. She loved gospel music, studying her bible and watching cooking shows.

 

Survivors include her daughter Teresa (Troy) Romines of Edmonton, one grandson Jackson Romines, three sisters Martha Jessie, Wanda Blaydes and Becky McKenzie (Marty Wilson), and one brother Kevin Lane Garmon. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by three brothers Austin, Louie and Archie Garmon, and her nephew Tommy Garmon.

 

Funeral services will be held Friday August 11,2023  2:00 P.M. at Grace Union Baptist Church with burial to follow in Chestnut Grove Cemetery. Visitation will begin Thursday August 10, 2023 from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at the church and after 8:00 A.M. Friday morning until time of the service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Grace Union Needy Children Fund.


James Harper

 



James Daniel Harper 70, of Glasgow passed away Monday, August 7,2023 at TJ Samson Hospital. He was born October 20, 1952 to the late James Johnson Harper and Ollie Huff Harper.

 

Survivors include four daughters Tammie Lynn Harper, Stacey Harper, Jennifer Harper and April Harper, three sisters Caroline (Kenneth) Vibbert, Loretta Anderson and Mary Lois (Roger) Watts.

 

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his son James Daniel Harper, Jr., one brother Kenneth Wayne Harper and his sisters Sue Ann Hurt, Mary Joyce Allen, Juanita Sexton and Vonda Flowers.

 

Funeral services will be Friday August 11, 2023 at 12:00 P.M. at McMurtrey Funeral Home with burial in the Lick Branch Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until time of service.

Judy Ann Winchester 63, of Edmonton passed away Monday August 7, 2023 at her home. She was born September 8,1960 in Glasgow to the late Walter Cross and Maxine Marie Taylor. Judy loved hummingbirds, going fishing, dancing, playing bingo and watching wrestling.

 

Survivors include her husband of 28 years Lonnie Winchester of Edmonton, six children Betty McCawley, George Walter (Virginia) Estes, William (Laura Beth) McCawley, Tanya Montana Miller, Brittany Grimsley and Clint Wayne Winchester. Fourteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren, two brothers Danny Lohden and Leroy Cross.

 

She is preceded in death by a sister Marilyn Staples, granddaughter Forrsta Cox and son in law Jerry Cox.

 

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at 2:00P.M. at McMurtrey Funeral Home with burial at Happy Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home and from 8:00 A.M. on Thursday until time of the service.

Mary Spears Frazier


 

Mary Elizabeth Spears Frazier, age 82, of Summer Shade, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2023, at Metcalfe County Health Care. Born September 16, 1940, in Celina, TN she was a daughter of the late Jack and Vandana Short Spears.

   Mary owned and ran Mary’s Restaurant

in Summer Shade many years and was a  member of New Life Christian Fellowship.

   Survivors include one son Tony (Deleda) Mosby, Lucas, KY; five grandchildren, Casey Crain, Karla Decker, Anthony Mosby, Erica Waid, and Justin Mosby; and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

   Preceding Mary in death besides her parents, were her husband, Carl (Shorty) Frazier; one son, Tim Mosby; three brothers Hubert and Sammy Spears, and Albert Walker; and one sister, Glen Huffman.

   Funeral services will be Monday, August 7, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at McMurtrey Funeral Home. A burial                                                                                                                                                                                                                          

will follow in Monroe County Memorial Lawn. Visitation will be Sunday, August 6, 2023, 4:00-8:00 P.M. and on Monday after 8:00 A.M. until time of services at 11:00.

Tammie Lynn Jessie

 


Tammie Lynn Jessie, 56, of Edmonton passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 2, 2023, with her loving family at her side. Tammie was born August 1, 1967, in Glasgow to the late Henry Thomas “Buster” Jessie and Daisy Marie England Jessie of Edmonton who survives.

Tammie was an outgoing person who had a bubbling personality. She had a love for everyone she came in contact with. Tammie, being a loving person and putting others before herself had donated a kidney to her great niece without reservation. She also had a great love for her pets and referred to them as her children and even after they passed on never forgot them or to mention them to others. Tammie courageously battled cancer and even in the end refused to give in to its deadly end. She will be admired for her determination and the final message being “I am a winner either way.” Tammie was a member of the Society Hill Baptist Church.

Besides her mother she is survived by sisters who stood close to her side. Linda Shirley, Brenda (Dennis) Judd and Betty (Wendell) Sexton. Several nieces and nephews. Dianna Whitlow, Scotty Shirley, Laura Howard, Brandon Judd, Kellie Sexton, Leslie Adwell and Monika Varney. Eighteen great nieces and eight great great nieces and nephews also survive with a host of close friends and other relatives.  

Besides her father Tammie was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Michael Shirley, and a nephew Terry Shirley.

In keeping with Tammie’s wishes, cremation was chosen. Her desire was to be interred between her parents at the passing of her mother. No services are scheduled at this time.
