Exie Mae Harris Vance

Exie Mae Lollar Harris Vance, age 83 of Summer Shade passed away peacefully September 13,2023. She was surrounded by love and prayers from all her family and loved ones at her daughter Sandra and family’s home. Exie Mae was welcomed to the world by her loving parents on December 23,1939 to Sammie and Mable Odell Humes Lollar. Exie was the oldest of her nine siblings, whom she loved dearly. She wed her first husband, Jack Albert Harris in 1958 and they made their happy home in Summer Shade, KY. Jack and Exie welcomed two adored children into the world Jeff (Bobbie) Harris of Glasgow and Sandra (Paul) Emberton of Lucas. Exie began working at a young age providing care for the elderly in their homes. She became a very talented seamstress for many years in nearby factories, she also became a district manager for Tupperware, and before retiring she worked at Walmart in Tompkinsville. With all these jobs she never met a stranger and felt so blessed to remain to have lifelong friendships with all those she had met. Yet the best job she ever had was yet to come, as she began babysitting children in the community, something she cherished. Exie was a member of Hagan's Grove Baptist Church.

Jack and Exie had a beautiful life until his passing in 1992. Years later, Exie wed a lifelong friend Veachel Vance in 1997, through this marriage she gained another beloved daughter Marcia (Lester) Thompson. Outside of gardening, shopping, and traveling, Exie enjoyed being a grandmother. Exie was the proud and loving grandmother to Kelli (Joey) Norman of Glasgow, MaLora (Michael) Woods of Gamaliel, Kara Harris of Glasgow, Logan, Landon, and Aleigha Emberton of Lucas, as well as a great grandmother to Harper and Ava Dickson. Through Exie’s marriage to Veachel, she gained a grandson CJ (Melinda) Bush of Glasgow and two great grandchildren Madelyn and Grayson. She also had several nieces and nephews that held a special place in her heart.

Along with her children and grandchildren, she is survived by her brothers Mitchell (Wanda) of Summer Shade, Ricky (Joyce) of Glasgow, and Chris (Cindy) of Edmonton, her sisters Barbie (Jackie) Crowe of Summer Shade, and Donna (Tom) of Celina. In addition to her parents and husbands, she is preceded in death by her brothers William and Baby Boy Lollar, two sisters Linda Arnett and RaChele Cross.

Exie’s celebration of life will be held at McMurtrey Funeral Home on September 15,2023 from 4:00PM to 8:00 P.M., with visitation to follow on Saturday September 16,2023 at 10:00 A.M. till 2:30 here at the funeral home with funeral services being held at White Cemetery Chapel at 3:00 P.M. with burial to follow in the White Cemetery.

Exie Mae was always loved by our family. She and I became friends when I was only two and she was three, so she was my very first friend. When we got older William, my brother Howard, Exie and I spent many Sunday afternoons roaming the woods on our farm looking for hickory nuts, walnuts, etc., and growing up together. She was truly a good person. Our sympathy, love and prayers go out for all the members of her family. Sincerely, Frances Wells Alexander
