CHARLES HUSTON MCMURTREY

                   
Charles Huston McMurtrey, age 87, of Summer Shade passed away Monday, September 23rd at TJ Samson Community Hospital.

He was the son of the late Herman L and  Hazel Grider McMurtrey.

Charles was owner and operator of McMurtrey Funeral Home,which was started by his father, Herman in 1929. He was also owner/operator of McMurtrey Planing Mill which manufactured truck bodies for many years. Charles also participated in many civic organizations. He was a charter member of the Summer Shade Lions Club: served on the Metcalfe County School Board from 1960 - 1967: and a member of the Monroe County Home Health Board for several years. Charles was a weather observer for the National Weather Service for over 50 years. He also served in the United States Navy as an Aviation Cadet.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Arlene Morgan McMurtrey; three sons, Tom McMurtrey (Freda) of Summer Shade, David McMurtrey (Phyllis) of Maysville, Kentucky, Gary McMurtrey (Sharon) of Summer Shade; three daughters, Jan Page (David) of Bowling Green, Laurie Butler (Jimmy) of Edmonton and Shana McMurtrey of Summer Shade: nine grandchildren, Brian and Jason McMurtrey of Summer Shade, Korey McMurtrey (Allison) of Louisville, Ashley Miller (Tom) of Cold Spring, Sarah Hoover (Scott) of Louisville, Hannah Page of Bowling Green, Russ, Emily and Ty McMurtrey of Summer Shade; three great grandchildren Emma, Micah Jacob and Jude McMurtrey and his beloved cat, Millie.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Horace Florian (Buddy) McMurtrey.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 25 beginning at noon and continuing Thursday. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 27 at 10:00 a.m. at McMurtrey Funeral Home with Bro. Gary Richardson officiating. Burial will be in the Summer Shade Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Summer Shade Fire Department or the charity of your choice.

SHIRLEY MAE CURTIS

Shirley Mae Curtis, age 62 of Tompkinsville, died Thursday. September 12, 2013.
She was a homemaker and a daughter of the late Delbert and Julie Norene Walker Curtis.  She was a member of the Mt. .Gilead Church of Christ. .
She is survived by one sister, Neva (Charles ) Shirley of Tompkinsville and several nieces
 and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry Curtis and her step father, Johnnie Collins.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept.14, at 2:00 P M at the McMurtrey Funeral Home with burial in the Skaggs Creek  Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday, Sept. 14, from 9:00 A M until funeral time at 2:00 P M.

DREXEL DAWES HOLLOWAY

Drexel Dawes Holloway, age 88, of the Sulphur Lick Community, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013 at home.
He was a farmer and a son of the late Herod and Lillie Eaton Holloway.  He was a member of the Mt. Gilead Church of Christ and an Army Veteran of WWII. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Roberts Holloway; six sons, Terry Holloway of Lexington, Gaius Holloway of Summer Shade, Forrest Holloway of Tompkinsville, Derek (Janice) Holloway of Minnesota, Alan Holloway of Summer Shade and Lance Holloway of North Carolina; grandchildren, Tabitha Holloway, Courtney Green, Dusty Brown, Jacob Holloway, and Heidi Holloway; one sister, Ravenel Haile of Georgia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Trudy Holloway; brothers, Walton and Elwin Holloway.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 1:00 P.M. at the Mt. Gilead Church of Christ with Bro. Tim McHenry officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Gilead Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Sept. 10 from 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the McMurtrey Funeral Home and after 10:00 A.M. at the church.

BENTLEY LOVING JOHNS, JR.

BENTLEY LOVING JOHNS, JR., age 63of Edmonton, died Friday, Sept. 6, 2013 at the T J Samson Community Hospital.
He was a carpenter and a son of the late Bentley Loving Johns, Sr..and  the late Peggy Easter Day Johns.
He survived by his wife, Ruby Priscella Fester Johns;   three daughters, Pamela Wright, Teresa Nesbit and Dawn Marie Nesbit all of Summer Shade; seven sons, Brian Johns  and Raymond Johns of Maryland, Kenny Johns, Bentley Johns, 11 of  South Carolina and Johnathan  Blanchard, of Summer Shade, Russell  Blanchard and Christopher Blanchard of South Carolina.  Two sisters, Ida Johns and Linda Johns of South Carolina;  one brother, Billy Johns of Maryland; twelve grandchildren and one great grandchild.
There will be no funeral service as cremation was chosen.
McMurtrey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

JUDY ANN SHOOPMAN SHAW

Judy Ann Shoopman  Shaw, age 58 of Willow Shade, died Friday, September 06, 2013 at the T J Samson Community Hospital.  She was a daughter of the late James and Alene Ballard Shoopman.  She was a member of the Willow Shade Church of Christ.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Shaw;  one son, Daniel (Casey ) Shaw of Willow Shade;  two grandchildren, Roeselyn and Madelyn Shaw and two step grandchildren, Hailey Lawson and Holden Carey;  three brothers,  Doug Shoopman and Rondal Shoopman, both of Willow Shade and Clarence Gibbons of Summer Shade;  her mother in law, Reba Shaw of Willow Shade and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Michael, Robert and Gary Shoopman and her father in law Travis (Ball) Shaw.
Funeral services will be Monday,  Sept. 9 at1:00 P M a the McMurtrey Funeral Home with Bro Gary Richardson officiating.  Burial will follow in the Harvey Cemetery at Willow Shade.
Visitation will begin Sunday, Sept. 8 at 12:00 noon.
