Nell Van Zant, age 90, of Summer Shade passed away on Monday, February 06, 2023 at the Monroe County Medical Center . Born on March 27, 1932 in Summer Shade, she was a daughter of the late Nova Witty Cawthorn and Jesse Herbert Cawthorn. Nell was a member of the Summer Shade Missionary Baptist Church . She was formerly employed at Handmackers.

She is survived by three daughters, Linda Muse of Glasgow, Janet K. Van Zant – Welsh of St. Jacob, Illinois, and Susan Smith (Thomas) of Summer Shade; six grandchildren, Emily McCallister (Jamey), Wendy Gaffin (Thomas), Erin Miller (Brett), Nicki Anderson (Dustin), Jonathon Kingrey ( Crystal ), and Jordon Kingrey (Shellynna); seventeen great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents, Nell was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ernest Maxie Van Zant; one son, Douglas Maxie Van Zant; two grandsons, Jeremy Van Zant and Daniel Van Zant; three sisters, Lavon Hunt, Lucille Johnston, Christine Witten.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, February 11 at 1 P.M. from the chapel of McMurtrey Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 10 from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M., and will continue on Saturday, February 11 from 8 A.M until service time at 1 P.M.
