Obituary

Gary Wayne Graves, 84, of Tompkinsville, KY passed away on October 25, 2026, at Signature Healthcare of Monroe. He was born on January 28, 1942, in Tompkinsville, KY to the late Less Kidwell and Wilma Louise Bowman Graves.

Gary lived a life shaped by hard work, service, and the pursuits he loved most. He served his country in the United States Navy, a time that also reflected his determination and competitive spirit. Among his proudest accomplishments were representing Tompkinsville High School at the Golden Gloves and winning many boxing matches while in the Navy. Those achievements spoke to his discipline, courage, and drive.

In his working years, Gary was a journeyman roofer, known for a trade that called for endurance, skill, and commitment. Outside of work, he found joy in many interests that expressed both his energy and creativity. He enjoyed singing, creating art, boxing, and playing the guitar. He also treasured spending time with family and friends, and those moments of togetherness were an important part of his life.

He is survived by his sister, Regina Graves Saylor, of Tompkinsville, KY. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Douglas Graves, Dennis Hugh Graves, and Harold Vaughn Graves; and a nephew, Justin Lee Saylor.

Funeral service will be Thursday, October 29, 2026, at 1:00PM at McMurtrey Funeral Home with cremation to follow. Visitation will begin at 11:00AM Thursday morning and continue until time for the service at the funeral home.
