Hazel McFarland


Hazel McFarland, 94, of Glasgow, KY, formerly of Willow Shade, KY, passed away Monday, September 1, 2025, at her home. She was born on June 24, 1931, in Willow Shade, to the late Ezra Lester and Hylus White Lester.

Hazel was of the Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Faith. She retired from NHC Healthcare as a dietitian and found enjoyment in cooking.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by five brothers; Murl, Tennyson, Raymond, Wayne, and Frank Lester; and one sister Helen Garrett.

Survivors include three sons, Dean McFarland (Audrey) of Glasgow, Larry McFarland of Owenton, and Jim McFarland of Glasgow; two grandchildren, Jay McFarland (Gina) of Glasgow and Brittany Gardner (Chuck) of Summer Shade; three great grandchildren, Charli, Mattie Jay, and Raelyn Gardner; one sister, Juanita Miller; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 2:00pm Friday, September 5, 2025, at McMurtrey Funeral Home, with burial in Beaumont Cemetery. Visitation will begin Friday morning at 10:00AM and will continue until time of the service at McMurtrey Funeral Home.

Roger Earl DeWeese

 


Roger Earl DeWeese, 86, of Summer Shade KY, passed away, Sunday, August 31, 2025, at the Shanti Niketan Residential Hospice House in Glasgow, KY. He was born April 1, 1939, in Summer Shade to the late Joe Harvey and Rosie Lee Reece DeWeese.

Roger was a member of the Dripping Springs United Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, crossword puzzles, and fiddling with old tractors.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou DeWeese; son, Steven DeWeese; daughter, Karen Cooksey; and siblings, Donald Joe DeWeese, Jerry DeWeese, Robert DeWeese, and Betty Dean.

Survivors include his children, Howard DeWeese (Pam), Tammy Shive, and Gary DeWeese (Stephanie); grandchildren, Shana Lawson (Max), Curtis DeWeese (Mandy), Kara Brooke DeWeese, Tony DeWeese, LaKeasha Edwards (Chy), Hannah DeWeese, Kaden Jackson, Frannie Jimenez, and Jennifer Morales; great grandchildren, Lucas Lawson, Logan Lawson, Aubrey DeWeese, Luna DeWeese, Canaan DeWeese, EvelynOak DeWeese, Kinlee Edwards, Kealynn Edwards, Kalynn Edwards, Kavah Edwards, Chyson Edwards, and Brinkley Edwards; siblings, Wendell DeWeese (Mariea), Joey DeWeese, Kim Whitlow, and Becky Anderson; and a special nephew, Terry Holley.

Funeral services will be 2:00pm Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at McMurtrey Funeral Home, with burial in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 4:00pm until 8:00pm and again on Wednesday morning after 8:00am until time for service.                                                  

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the funeral home to assist with funeral expenses.
